Skip security
Using our ideation process we were able to turn the aspiration of our client into a manufacturable product. With no previous experience of diecasting or injection moulding, Skiplock were looking for a design company that could provide both a specification and source a complete supply chain including, toolmakers, moulders and assembly.
The challenge
Skiplock identified the need for better security and safety of builders’ skips. The very convenience and ease of lifting skips means they are easy to steal. Another problem for skip operators is that safety lights are pilfered or run out of power leading to local authority fines.
The design
The solution is a conical, rugged, two-piece alloy clamp that locks onto a skip’s lifting lug with a simple 90° twist action. This prevents lifting shackles being attached. With the addition of a flashing four LED module the Skiplock becomes a theft proof road safety lamp to conform to BS 3143 PT2:1990. The unit is rechargeable by the skip operator giving over one month’s life and eliminating the need for replaceable batteries.
