At what point does an innovation become an invention? There are a number of ways to register and protect designs. KDI can help select the most appropriate protection mechanism and advise when to involve specialists such as a patent attorney. Once an idea or design is sufficiently well defined there are number of reasons for researching its claim to novelty including, establishing its level of originality, freedom to use, protection from competition and potential licensing value.

A useful tool at an early stage is a Non Disclosure Agreement. By signing the agreement, those who the idea is exposed to, commit to keeping any disclosed information confidential for an agreed period of time.
